  • I'm engaged to be engaged......?

I recently talked with my boyfriend about moving our relationship to the next level. Well he agreed, that we had gotten comfortable and it would be nice to take the next step, then outta no-where, he is looking for houses, showed me the rings he has looked at, and is set on a court house wedding! Okay so we are so not on the same page, i dont see where he jumped past the little things and is diving into the huge life decisions here? All i wanted was to get married and move from there, not get married at a court house and move into a house, the financial responsiblity is huge, let alone our lease is only half way thru on our house. What can i say to him to take a step back, im will post more later, its time to go to work.

  • Dangers of the Job

While being a mechanic can be a tough job, depending on the situation, some people do not realize the life threatening situation they can get involved in on a simple repair.
With in our company (which i will not name) there has already been 2 deaths as of this year. One is still under investigation, the other was on a roadside repair. The year before there was a double digit death toll. Working in the shop or roadside is very dangerous, even more so when you are dealing with semi trucks and trailers.
In shop dangers are less than roadside, but the dangers include lift failure, accidental start-ups/ drive-offs, incorrect way to break down certain jobs (air-ride, wheels, electrical, suspension, etc.) Sometimes it can be doubled depending on the condition of the
    equitment you are working on.
Roadside is where you have to make sure your work area is safe and be aware of traffic, road conditions, and weather. Working on the side of the road has claimed more than a few lifes, some where caused by traffic, drivers of cars who failed to move over and slow down, drivers asleep at the wheel and drivers not able to control thier vehicles in bad weather. Also, the same risks that are present at the shop can also be a contributing factor. If you drive on the intersate and see flashing yellow lights, safety cones, and giant work signs, please be curtious and slow down and move over, I have been in many scary situations where cars and trucks have almost hit me... I know the rushes of everyday life but ignoring the safety of others could have a great impact on yours if you hit a worker.
For all the fathers, sons, cousins, uncles, brothers, sisters, mothers, aunts, and friends who did not get to clock out of work and go home, may thier familys and friends find peace. We all must do our part, be aware and care!

  • Working at a Truck-stop...

There is always some sort of drama when u work with the public, and even more drama when u work with ppl who are all friends and grew up with each other...but the main issue is when ppl just dont care to try.
So Saturday morning is all about why there were so many trucks just sitting in the shop when i walked it at 7am. Come to find out they hadnt been touched, or they would be down for a couple of days. The truck in our second bay was a waiting game, for it needed a spindle, and all the goods around the spindle since it caught on fire and the driver was in a mad rush to get to NC with his trailer full of meat. The person we normally go through is Tony's Diesel but he wasnt able to get parts until Monday. This meant we had to get a different service provider from who knows where to weld on a new spindle. No one was able to find one until 9am.
The truck in bay 5 was a little Landstar box truck which needed 3 wheel seals and 2 air bags....he was in earlier this week for an inspection and we told him what was wrong, so he came back Friday night to get the work done. Low and behold NO ONE looked at the truck...it sat untouched until i started to ask about it when i came it. The guys on 2nd shift didnt touch it, nor did the guys on 3rd, they all had come up with a different excuse as to why they didnt work on it....even the managers didnt seem to care. So to start the day off we already have alot of work to do and many ppl are arguing about why. We had all the parts, we just had ignorance on our side. The morning was all about mad mechanics, and managers! Once we settled the issues one of our mechanics got it all taken care of (which in deed took longer than his 8hr shift. I on the other hand got to take care of all the other small mechanical that rolled in after. No big problem there, but the drama between grown men is the issue! Why cant they just do the work, why is it always a fight? Yes i am a woman in a mans fireld but geeze i dont act anything like them not even on those dreaded mother nature days where hormones tend to rage. But lets just hope today goes sooo much smoother!!
